New and extended assets
FRANCE – LYON
Charles River Laboratories has invested an additional €25 million (£21.4 million) in France, mainly in Saint-Germain-Nuelles, near Lyon, where it employs 800 of its 1,500 French employees. Charles River’s facility in Lyon is a large in vivo facility that offers regulatory toxicology studies to support the development of small molecules, vaccines, biologics, and cell and gene therapeutics. The facility has 130 animal rooms and 18,000 sq m (194,000 sq ft) of laboratory space.
MALTA - MASRA
Vivian, a leading healthcare distributor in Malta, has invested substantially in its new headquarters in Marsa, enabling the company to centralise its operations and to develop new service areas such as pharmaceutical warehousing. The premises include 1,000 sq m (10,800 sq ft) of new temperature-controlled warehouse space for Vivian's own products and third-party logistics (3PL) clients.
UK – CAMBRIDGE
Bruntwood SciTech’s £250 million (€293 million) redevelopment plans for Melbourn Science Park in Cambridgeshire have been approved. The project will provide up to 390,000 sq ft (36,230 sq m) of specialist lab and office space to support around 75 businesses. Designed by architects Sheppard Robson, the project involves the refurbishment of three existing and the construction of six new buildings.
UK – CAMBRIDGE
Prologis UK is making plans for further development at Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC). The firm is bringing forward the £200 million (€233 million) scheme as part of the second phase expansion of the campus. One year ago, Prologis UK and main contractor SDC hosted a topping-out ceremony at 1000 Discovery Drive, the new multi-let laboratory and office space at CBC.
UK – GLASGOW
Kadans Science Partner and the University of Glasgow, supported by Scottish Enterprise, have started the construction of the new Health Innovation Hub in Govan. Work on the Health Innovation Hub is due for completion in autumn 2025. Morrison Construction has been appointed as the main contractor.
UK – LIVERPOOL
Sciontec Developments has proposed a second phase of its Hemisphere development to be built near Liverpool’s Paddington Village. New laboratory and workspace is planned with a gross internal area of 350,000 sq ft (32,500 sq m) which will occupy a site adjacent to Hemisphere One in the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool) innovation district. The scheme is still subject to discussions with the council in relation to master planning and the future sale of the remaining Paddington Village plots and planning consent.
UK – OXFORD
Hartwell has unveiled plans to deliver circa 106,233 sq ft (9,870 sq m) of new carbon-efficient lab and work space buildings for small- and medium-sized science and technology companies at Wootton Science Park located to the south-west of Oxford. The £35 million (€41 million) development, which was designed by Scott Brownrigg, will see the delivery of five new commercial buildings alongside amenities such as secure bike storage, a bistro and a gym.
